And don’t forget about Brazil. A lot of folks have speculated that we got the idea for HiveDock from the computers featured in the movie. Not the case, but that looks like a nice Fresnel lens.
I trust everyone will enjoy their HiveDock, but if not, we want to make it right. . .
We’ll PayPal $100 to the person who publicly posts the BEST video of the smashing/destroying/exploding/blending of their unwanted HiveDock. The best video will be determined by us here at Screendoor Studio Inc.
Requirements: have a PayPal account, and submit your public video’s link via the comments for this post or via the contact form on this website. I will re-post any videos here for everyone to see. Of course we do not encourage dangerous activity and are not responsible for resultant injuries from destroying your HiveDock (which we hope you don’t want to destroy)!
Follow @HiveDock on Twitter for updates, future promotion codes, and news.
At this time, we are working to order more units and have them warehoused in London. This will help those who are oceans away from Los Angeles get a far more reasonable shipping rate.
HiveDock ($34.99 USD) is now shipping all over the world!!
Color available is a two-tone (black over metallic).
I think you’ll find this color on top is ideal for viewing, because black doesn’t reflect as much light.
Your HiveDock comes in a box with the Fresnel lens carefully packed underneath the unit. The lens is then stored in the lens slot.
This first generation HiveDock works with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.
The sound is nice and crisp and loud (perhaps a bit louder in landscape orientation). And the lens does a great job bringing all the brightness and clarity of the Retina Display in 2X magnification. Try it in a dimly lit room!
Also, I encourage you to try using a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone placed in the HiveDock. You’ll see it’s a comfortable way to type or browse the Internet when seated at a desk. It’s easy to use one of your hands to access your iPhone’s home button and touch screen behind the lens in order to cut/paste, click links, or switch between apps.
Hopefully soon, iOS will accept a Bluetooth mouse to be paired with the iPhone. Because HiveDock and BT keyboard + mouse makes the iPhone an even more powerful and versatile pocket computer. For now, in order to get a BT mouse paired to your iPhone, you have to jailbreak.
Thank you to everyone who’s already ordered a HiveDock from these fabulous places: Alabama, Austria, Arizona, Brazil, California, Canada, Colorado, Connecticut, Denmark, Florida, France, Georgia, Great Britain, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indiana, India, Italy, Japan, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Monaco, Mississippi, North Carolina, Netherlands, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Tennessee, Texas, United Arab Emirates, US Virgin Islands, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin
The units are shipped from a warehouse in California, so those closer to LA will get better shipping rates.
HiveDock turns an iPhone 4 into a laptop with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
I shot and edited this pretty quickly/roughly, then added some Vulture Whale music (me on drums). But I think it shows pretty well a convenient and awesome way to use your iPhone once paired with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
The combined cost of the three accessories (HiveDock, BT keyboard, BT mouse) should be around $100 bucks. The need for an expensive laptop: eliminated in many cases.
NOTE: I had to jailbreak my iPhone 4 in order to get the BT mouse to work. Hopefully Apple will add this capability soon.
As the Kickstarter campaign draws to an unfunded close, I wanted to link to some reviews and mentions (see below).
Friends, fans, supporters of Hive: FEAR NOT! I’ve received tons of emails from all over the world from individuals and companies wanting to order, resell, license, distribute, and manufacture Hive. I’m in the process of navigating these offers and inquiries as well as seeking a new funding source. More updates coming soon.
